MY BIOLOGICAL AGE SHOCKED ME!

Unsure what to expect, I took this Harvard approved lab test.  My results truly opened my eyes and have led me to make some serious life changes.

Let me start by introducing myself, I’m Devin and at the time I took this test I was a little over 40 years old.  Now this whole concept was new to me so I’ll walk you through some of the questions I had as well as some of my results so you can see what to expect.

WHAT’S CHRONOLOGICAL AGE VS. BIOLOGICAL AGE?

Chronological age is what the calendar says.  I was born in 1982, so when I did the test I registered at 40.52 years old.  Your biological age is what this report tells you.  Simply put it’s the age your body is operating at by checking various biomarkers of aging.  In my case, my biological age was 47.59 years old meaning my body is operating 7.07 years older than the calendar says, NOT GOOD!

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

My being 47.59 years old biologically vs my 40.52 years old from the calendar says that I am aging faster than the calendar. Obviously that’s not good for many reasons but they show you a chart below of your increased risk of DEATH! Not to mention 6 other diseases/issues that are impacted:

PACE OF AGING

The pace of aging shows your current (at the time of labs) rate of biological aging vs chronological.  Anything over 1 means you’re aging at a rate faster than the calendar, where lower means the opposite, you’re aging slower.  This is what people refer to when discussing aging slower. Two BIG things:

  • If you age ABOVE a rate of 1 you would INCREASE your risk of death by 56% in the next 7 years!
  • If you age BELOW a rate of 1 you would DECREASE your risk of chronic disease diagnosis by 54% in the next 7 years!

WHAT ARE TELOMERES AND HOW DO THEY AFFECT AGING?

Telomeres are structures made from DNA sequences and proteins found at the ends of chromosomes. They cap and protect the end of a chromosome like the end of a shoelace.

Shortened telomere length directly correlates to aging.  There are many available treatments to help increase telomere length available.

OMICm FitAge is explained in the image below and dictates your true age based on fitness markers found in your lab work.

Interestingly enough, I’m about to embark on a treatment plan with two primary goals:

  1. Slowdown my pace of aging (to get it below 1)
  2. Lower my biological age
